Essential Preparation for a Safe Procedure
Follow these important guidelines before undergoing anesthesia to ensure a smooth and safe experience. Proper preparation is crucial for your health and the success of your surgery.
Fasting and No Smoking
No food, drink, or smoking after midnight before your appointment.
Transportation Required
Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after the procedure.
Health and Clothing
Wear loose clothing and notify us if you're feeling unwell before surgery.


- For appointments involving anesthesia by IV sedation, you may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) after midnight prior to your appointment.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home. Individuals 18 years or older will need to stay with patient for 24 hours.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up above the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
- If you have an illness such as a fever, cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
- Most oral medications should be taken the day of surgery with minimal water. Please check with one of our oral surgeons if you are taking medications for diabetes or are taking coumadin prior to your surgical date for instructions.
